Division 3 students are constantly learning. It is a known fact that many of them go home at night and forget to talk about the things they learned during their day. When trying to engage in a conversation with your child, instead of asking “What did you do today?”, try saying “Tell me about one thing you learned today.”

Here are some words and idiomatic expressions we played with this morning.

  • un pif
  • commencer/partir du bon pied
  • démancher
  • rôtir
  • ratatiner
  • pogner
  • tomates étuvées

When looking at the BC Performance Standards for French writing, you will notice that Grade 7 students must start using idiomatic expressions to be able to exceed expectations. I’ve included a copy of one of these rubrics we use when assessing students’ work. Next time your child says he would like to get better at writing, ask him to pick one element from this rubric.
